Geotechnical Engineer specialising in 3D Numerical Modelling

Due to a strong demand for services in Australia, we are seeking a Geotechnical Engineer with numerical modelling capabilities to join our Sydney office. The ideal candidate would be someone with 2 to 5 years of relevant experience who is looking to hone their technical skills through exposure to industry leaders and a wide range of projects. Candidates with more or less experience, and experience in other fields will also be considered if the candidate has suitable technical skills and ability to adapt into a new team.
Position expectations:
- Work collaboratively with colleagues on geotechnical consulting projects.
- Be self-directed, managing and completing work on time and on budget.
- Perform numerical modelling, analyse results, and communicate results internally and to clients.
- Capable of handling 3D complex geometry and meshing.
- Have a strong understanding of in-situ stress, geomechanics and pore pressure.
- Assist with other project tasks (not numerical analysis based) as required.
- Assist to develop analysis tools and numerical capacity for the company.
- Be innovative and creative on the project tasks.
- Strong technical focus with critical thinking.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Minimum requirements:
- Bachelor, Master or Ph.D. degree in Geotechnical, Geomechanics, Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years relevant experience as a Geotechnical Engineer, Mining Engineer, Civil Engineer, Rock Mechanics Engineer, Geomechanics Engineer, or a related position.
- Proficiency with advanced numerical modelling with a minimum of one year experience.
- Good understanding of computational mechanics, material constitutive models and nonlinear finite element formulation and their theories.
- Demonstrated capability in preparing, running, interrogating and assessing geotechnical analysis using Itasca software (FLAC3D and/or 3DEC).
- Familiarity with Rocscience software (RS3 and Slide3), Plaxis 3D or other equivalent packages, such as Abaqus.
- Knowledge and experience of using 3D CAD software such as Rhino3D or AutoCAD.
- Familiarity with coding with Python, VBA and Matlab preferred.
- Passion to work on 3D complex and challenging numerical analyses.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
